She left her children for over 24 hours to fend for themselves (please read link) What punishment would you give?

I am speechless..I think the kids need to be removed and the mother needs rehab and years of parenting classes before they even think about letting the kids back in her care! I can't stand how all the courts just put people in jail and we get stuck paying for it! she needs massive treatment

She shouldnt be allowed to be a mother again & the kids should be given to a childless couple who will treat them with the love and care they truly deserve. If this is one nights actions out of the house what was these children subject to when she was there?

There is no reference to her general parenting skills apart from that the house was in a terrible mess.

She clearly isnt mature enough to be a mother and these children need protection - long term

Why is it that these kind of people are blessed with children when so many are unable to conceive?

It definitely makes me think what kind of justice is there in life?

I am amazed at how people who never should have had children can keep having them and those who would make great parents can't have them. As a social worker/therapist I see and hear so much but I am still in shock at some of the things I hear and this is one of them. Suspended sentence is a joke. She should lose her kids and have to be sterilized as to not bring anymore into the world. This could have had a whole different outlook. She could be burying those children. I wonder though how long it will be before she gets custody of the kids again. Good parents lose their kids for abuse when they do nothing wrong (I have worked with those parents) and then women like her get her kids back (if she does). It is a sad state when a mother would rather get high and party than to care that her kids might die.

I'm glad that she no longer has custody of the children, but giving her a suspended sentence is a farce. The judge and her should both be put behind bars to contemplate the error of their decisions. What example does this set ?? That it's okay to neglect your children and party ?? The curfew idea is a joke too, it just means that the friends have to party at her place. Very sad indeed. :( +5

She should have her children taken away and placed with a family who can care for them. She should NEVER get them back. In my opinion, you get one chance. If you choose a drug and alcohol binge over your children, you have NO BUSINESS having children, and you should have existing children removed, and your tubes tied so that no more children must be subjected to your idiocy.

This is why there are so many kids who are EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED. This mother should have lost her children, I don't know how she didn't. Really pathetic.

Make her go to parenting classes, after a year if she has proven to the courts she can be a fit mother, then she can have her children back.

There is no link, but I saw a little bit about it on the TV. I don't know the details so I may be wrong, but I get the feeling that there may be double standards due to class here. I think she is a working class mother, and seems to be getting a far harder time than nice middle-class doctors the McCanns got for going out for similar reasons, and leaving their children to fend for themselves. The link is there now, and I think that a suspended sentence is no punishment at all, and she has gotten off with it really. I'm not sure what the best punishmnet would be as some would punish the children as much as they would punish her, so assuming that she has someone who can look after the kids then maybe community service, and social work keeping an eye on her from now on.
