The WD stands for "water displacing" and the product works well in many lubricating situations. Caution: many people said they use WD40 in locks. WD40 leaves a dirt attracting film which gums up locks. Most brass and zinc locks become useless when WD40 is used and dirt is present. The preferred lubricant is graphite.
