I think that is a wonderful idea. I support it 100%.
-
I think it would be tough to enforce, but a good idea nonetheless.
-
I dont think this is a website for anyone and branding users under 18 is redicoulus
-
I agree, with all the technology and coding available, AB shouldnt have a problem implementing this.

If we're voting count me in on that..+++points to you for a great suggestion.

No I don't think so. Firstly, people can lie about their age so this can not be enforced. Secondly, this badge will change the way people interact with certain users and I think everyone should be treated equally. Thirdly, younger children should not go to the adult section - but if they do there is nothing that can be done to prevent them. Forcing people to use credit cards to access the adult section etc is not a reasonable measure. In my opinion the current Answerbag system is as good as it gets (good job Joel!), people are presented with a warning screen and it is their choice if they pass it or not. Parents who are conscious about what their children might access have every right to filter adult content from their computers using web-filtering software. Forcing users who are under 18 to have an age badge is insulting at best. This is a big no vote from me.

Whilst I agrre with the majority view, nevets has a very valid point. Besides, just from the tone or content of certain questions, most folks can spot a younger ABer. Provided we all act responsibly, and use the moderation function effectively, AB members should be able to police the site themselves. Inevitably there may well be some small amount of unsavoury behaviour, but again that should be spotted and blocked my members themselves. Making the site age restrictive could be detrimental for some of us old goats anyhoo....

Okay so on the other hand why don't AB have a special section for the over 40's as they are senile. How exactly can we define what age you are an adult? E.g a 15 year old girl/boy caring for her parents/siblings and running the house should she be talked down to just because of her age and all the skills that she had gained be ignored?

I don't see how this could be implemented. Most of the younger users are very computer savvy, and would probably have no problem working around whatever obstacles are thrown in their way. I think it is usually easy to tell who the younger users are, but when I can't then it means they are acting in an adult manner and should be treated as such.
