Do you ever give advice to make an impression on someone rather than to actually help or say what you think? With total strangers...you don't know anything about them so how do you "advise" a total stranger whose story you don't know?

In many cases the best advice comes from strangers because it is objective. That's why many people find it helpful to go to counselling. There is no one to try to make an impression on here, so there is no point.

The last time I gave advice to a total stranger was at our local airport, where we had gone to pick up some visitors. While we were waiting a man pushed his luggage trolley onto an inclined moving walkway that goes from the arrivals level to the departures level and car parks. He was struggling gamely to keep the trolley from rolling backwards, which would have tumbled him onto the people behind him. "Let go of the handle and the brake will work." I shouted. It certainly made an impression.
