Could be all three. There's a saying around where I live that says: "Una escoba nueva siempre barre bien" Loosely translated that means: "A new broom always sweeps well." Note that the saying isn't necessarily sexist as it applies to both men and women or other situations meaning that most people in a new posittion tend to put forward their best effort at first, though that doesn't always stay that way.

Not sure. I do know that the person who turned out horrible is often someone who was initially considered perfect and great. And the cycle continues because people are constantly evolving. That's why two people getting married and living their whole lives together is rare. I don't know what the statistics are but I'm sure they aren't exactly encouraging.
