  • The meteor strike near Yucatan that many believe caused the extinction of the dinosaurs was not so great, really. It was not enough to cause a "wobble" in the earth's orbit. It certainly created a weather and climate change for a short time...but long enough to affect the dinosaurs' reproduction. This is why; the dinosaurs were both reptiles and "proto-avian". Some were warm blooded, and had three-chambered hearts,...as birds do today, though not mammals. They had a delicate reproduction system. It was very dependent upon temperature...as with most reptiles today. Unlike mammals, the gender of the offspring is determined by the temperature at which the eggs develop. Females dig holes to lay their eggs. The top eggs usually develop into females because the warmer temperature is what triggers the female development. The eggs buried deeper remain cooler, usually, and develop into males. A sudden climate change would mess up the gender balance. Little male dinosaurs would grow up with no females to mate with,...thus...extinction.
  • The asteroid the killed all the dinosaurs was nowhere near big enough to tilt the Earth. Experts say that the asteroid was the size of a city(which is kind of small). Now most dinosaurs weren't actually reptiles. They were the ancestors of mordern birds. If you are wondering what could have given the Earth it's tilt, there is a strong theory saying that a planet sized asteroid collided with the young earth giving the young earth it's tilt and giving us the moon.
