No, I don't think so, per se. Some ideals are better than others...and some have succeeded better. Actually, I think the lack of true idealism has been more of a problem in history. Not all revolutionary movements are truly idealistic. Many have been based on pure desperation and chaos and the people being led by the nose.

Yes and No. An end to slavery was an idealistic notion, and so was Alcohol Prohibition.

It's not so much the idealism itself but how humans have twisted and manipulated it to serve their purposes. And the fact that those in positions where they could have stopped it did nothing.

No, that type of delusional thinking is "normal" and everywhere. Humans seem to have a major problem with reality.
