Help answer this question below.

Do you think the day will come (within the next 20 years) when you can go online and check the contents of your PO Box, to find out if it is "worth it" to drive down to the PO to retrieve your mail? (I wish it would happen soon!)

In Australia, we already have this optional service. Not email, but the post office sends me an SMS if I have mail in my box.

- Unfortunately, no. They just say "you've got mail". Sometimes, you go to the letterbox, just to find it is junk mail.

I seriously doubt it will hapeen now or in the future. I can imagine how much of a pain it is to have to actually drive to a PO box especially since I get my mail delivered at home.

- I totally understand that. I'm surprised that you consider a United States postal worker a stranger, but the again I understand who knows what's up with them. It's like who can you trust anymore. That's a sad thing to have to think but it's so true.

I would love to see this happen....I get tired of getting out and going to the post office just to find junk mail....But I guess that is better than getting bills.

I have a feeling the PO Box will just be done away with altogether. Advertisements are cheaper to send electronically so they'll eventually slow down to an almost halt. More people are paying/receiving bills online than ever before. And who sends letters? So no, I don't think there will be an online peek into your PO Box because I don't think it will be an option 20 years down the road.

Just an opinion. Besides, is a majority of your mail worth it now? I know mine isn't. +3

- You're right. It's not an absolute. But you can't deny the drastic drop in the number of letters written 20 years ago as opposed to today.

- Is that why your mail is delivered to an innocuous PO Box Mensan? You are protecting your location and are willing to go out of your way to get your mail? Have you ever been hassled in the past? We have a peephole and look out to see who is there. If we don't recognize the person, we don't answer. What do you fear? Happy Friday to you! :)

- It isn't "fear." I just don't wish to be bothered by strangers unexpectedly knocking on my door.

  I don't trust strangers all that much, anymore, and nowadays, there appears to be valid reasons NOT to trust folks you don't know.
  .
  I had a friend who, when he was a toddler, someone enterered his house, then shot/killed BOTH of his parents, right in front of him.
  .
  The killers (who got by with it, because he was too young to identify them) didn't kill him, probably because they didn't consider him to be any kind of "threat" to them.
  .
  They were right.
  .
