  • your first question requires for your second question to be answered with yes :P. I myself do not need God to deal with anything. In fact my life would probably be alot simpler if I didn't believe in (a) God. "We all live, we all die, end of story" how easy is that!
  • no ppl use more than religion to help them cope with life, and to get through the downturns in it. They still deal with reality, they just use different things to lean on to get them through it
  • I don't think people "use" God. It is a two way relationship. People who beleive in God do so because they have felt the results of the relationship. Here is an example: - Someone is going through a hard time and goes for a run and feels better after. - Someone is going through a hard time and prays to God for relief and feels better after as well. There is no difference between the two. However one does it, these things all help us deal with our reality.
  • Your question presupposes that God and reality are opposites. I think it makes more sense to think of God as the source of All, and therefore the true nature of reality of All. (I don't believe in an Old Testament type God.)
