Well sorta...I was talking to a friend about his addiction and he took it lightly, then the next day he called me scared shitless cause he'd coughed up alot of blood. It's been nearly a week now since his last cigarette.

no only myself and i smoked for over 40 years and gave it up cold turkey and as well as feeling better without them i have more money to spend on better things in life.

Nephew. Offered to help him turn life around if he gave up dope and cigarettes. It worked for two years but he found a woman that would provide for him and allow dope and cigarettes. Will choose my beneficiaries a bit closer in the future.

yes, my family and my cousins family from my dad's side were all going down east, nova scotia, p.e.i., newbrunswick. and all those places. all the family on my dad's side lives there, aside from the cousins we were going with. We were driving down. so it was 6 days just to get there. We were at a campsite about 4 days in. and all the kids were sitting around the fire. Then, my cousin Megan pulled out a smoke. My brother then told her that she was smoking a bunch of crap. To show her how bad it was that she was smoking, he rolled up a piece of paper, about the length of a smoke. and then he put some grass into it, some dirt, and a piece of a weed. and a couple things off of a pinecone. he then taped the side of it so it would all stay together inside the paper tube. And then he lit it a little at the end from the fire. It looked exactly as a real one does. he then told her to smoke it. she did, and absolutely hated it. Megan said that it was so nasty, and why would anyone want that?? My brother repeated this 2 more times. and for the rest of the trip once a day we occasionally gave her one of those black licorice tasting candy pipe things. It's been 3 years since then and she has not had a single smoke. and now she has a baby that is 3 months old. so not only is she benifitting her health, but also her babies. so i didn't make her quit, my brother did. but i thought this was a good story to share for this question.=)

In order to be successful at talking to someone about changing anything about themselves, they have to have the door open in the first place. If they are not open to your suggestions, nothing will work. It's called free will.

I use to try - even offering money. The only one that stopped was my brother who quit about a month before he died of cancer in May. Some have told be I cannot prove a connection between cancer and smoking - they are correct. +5
