  • Yes, are we not allowed to use nig on anything, because someone might think it is racial?
  • well seeing as negro was originally a latin word for black until somebody decided to make it into a new word, i'd say it's fine.
  • Well, even I can remember from my childhood a popular type of chewing tobacco that was a long twist and would be cut into plugs at the store into however many pieces was wanted...called niggerhead tobacco. It was dark, almost black. A type of thistle found near marshes and lakes were also called niggerheads. In the old sailing ship days, an iron post used for tying up a docked ship was a 'niggerhead'. It was usually an old cannon, embedded in stone, muzzle up. The term 'nigger' in all these words referred to the color black, not 'racial' in any way. 'nigger' was simply an adaptation of the Spanish and Portugese 'negro'; black. It was apparently used in English even before colonization and the introduction of African slaves to America. So, the word preceeded its later use. It was not 'invented' as a term for Africans.
  • You might be able to sell 'em but I wouldn't fancy being spotted eating 'em in Kingston Town Jamaica.
  • Why not there nothing wrong with the word.
  • Why not? As long as we have a candy bar named "honky" or "whitetrash" or "redneck" I see nothing wrong with it. :(
