Atheists: Did you like Ben Stein before he went so public about his views on creationism in school?

Ben Stein is one of those odd creatures who combines insanity with charm in a way that he can speak total nonsense with the sound of authority. Wish I could learn that :)

Ben Stein will be cool no matter what he say/does. That old show he used to have was awesome. Plus he did a great commercial on clear eyes... 'It removes redness, and has the ingredients to moisturize! Wooooooooooooooow.'

Ben Stein never was and never will be cool. He worked in the Nixon administration, for crissakes. He's the worst kind of conservative troglodyte, and is wrong on so many more issues than evolution. So no, I didn't like him anyway. :) I think he's basically an opportunist - I doubt his views on creationism are all that strongly held, it just seemed like a potentially lucrative audience. The makers of the movie did all the interviews themselves and brought him on as a front man, and scripted him and all that. He probably thought he'd become an evangelical darling. But the movie was an embarassment and bombed, so it wasn't such a smart career move after all.

There was something about "Win Ben Stein's Money" that I enjoyed, but after that, I never thought about him (except for the Clear Eyes commercials).

I've never thought much about him, either way. He's had some movie roles where his drab personality was entertaining, but that's about it.
