  • It's the politics of division and it appeals to the simple minded. The we are right, moral and God likes us versus the they are corrupt, immoral and atheists. If people are busy hating each other those with the real power can laugh all the way to the bank. Then there is another theory. How better to bring a country to it's knees than to divide it from within and watch it self destruct and divide up the spoils? I could go on about this but I won't. I would however urge people to look into this issue.
  • I think that politicians have lost sight of what they SHOULD be doing. In Congress, they are there to represent the voice of the people. That is why they are in office. It seems like a lot of Congressmen and Congresswomen have forgotten that in the race to push their own agendas. BTW, I think it was hilarious when the NY State Senate had that uproar with the Democrats being accused for having an illegal vote because they included a Republican in the voting for a number of measures. Why was the Republican there in the first place? He claimed he was trying to get to the snack machine. Classic!
  • I'm not sure it's true that politics have "become" undignified. When was this golden age of political dignity?
  • No..they are all prostitutes. They are bought and paid for by big business and they roll over or lie down on their backs for the money that is "contributed" to them...in the olden days we called it "bribes"! It is sad but there ya have it. No integrity, no honor, no true beliefs...only love of money! :(
  • Boy, you hit the nail on the head here! +5
  • I'd rather have an undignified system with free-speaking people than a dignified system with coerced people. If it becomes undignified to question someone's decision or statement, that's just another method of coercion and favors centralized authoritarianism.
  • A school playground would be better! Teachers wouldn't tolerate half the crap that goes on during sessions, and most kids are smarter than most Congresspeople. As to why this is happening, I think society in general is getting less polite, less interconnected. Political shenanigans are only a symptom of the problem.
  • Congress have steadily been loosing power over the last several decades. The judical taking power by nulling laws they do not like, and the executive by propagandaizing what it wants to do and thus forcing congress along, and also by that new invention of the Bush admin, the signing statement, which again weakens the law making power of Congress. And with loss of power we get a corresponding loss of responsibility. Congressmen are free to indulge in histrionics at the bidding of whichever party machine got them voted in. We may even see political monstrosities like Ann Coulter or Bill Maher in congress in the future. regards JakobA
  • Back when they used to have fist fights and hit each other with canes. . I could go for that kind of civility and C-SPAN ratings would definitely go up.
  • Personally, I lay the problem at the feet of Dick Cheney. Why? July 1, 2004. Read on: http://www.laweekly.com/2004-07-01/news/fuck-yourself-dick-cheney
