It's called separation anxiety. Once your dog has it, it is VERY hard to get rid of. Some dogs never get over it. One thing you can do is exercise your dog more, more, MORE. More exercise and playtime = less nervousness inside the house.

Dogs don't just need physical exercise, they need intellectual stimulation too. If you leave the dog alone all the time, it will find it's own things to do, which might include things you don't appreciate, such as chewing shoes and walls and couches. You need to spend time with your dog, it's part of the responsibility of owning a pet.
