  • I have a pretty sensitive stupidity monitor but atheism is such a simple, and indeed non-factional, idea that it would be hard to see it misrepresented by a fellow atheist. Religious folk sometimes get confused by calling it a religion of sorts (which it isn't by definition), but I haven't noticed any horrible or outstanding own-goals on the subject. I'd like to bet that religious folk get rather more frustrated by some of their fellow believers because it's such a fractured area with umpteen different takes on God and how to follow Him. We'll see. +++
  • Good question. I have learnt to first seek, as best I can, to come to common ground with those on AB before making any judgement. If I earnestly and sincerely question what might at first appear a glib response, I have found more often than not, that the second comment is far more measured. Where I think, it has not been measured I tend not to make any further comments. I am in no position to judge objectively if they are stupid or not arguments. I certainly do not like some quite derogatory or accusatory or 'below the belt' styles of arguments, but some people may thrive on them. I myself will never put forward something I believe to be stupid, so I tend to think others will not. If someone deliberately wants to be stupid, then that is for their conscience alone to deal with, not something I need to worry about. Overall, I have had some excellent arguments on AB, and I am very thankful.
  • LoL. Im sure. Sometimes I swing in on convos and most of them dont make sense. But that goes for both sides. lmao, sometimes I just dont even get the point they are trying to make. But whatever, its not like its sposed to make sense.
  • Actually, yes, I have.
  • Interesting question. I think the weakest argument from atheists is: For god to have created the universe he must be even more complex that the universe - and so his existence would just beg the question or where he came from. The reason I think it's weak is that there is zero evidence in support of god or any way we can begin to describe what one would be like. Getting trapped into the vortex of speculating on any of his properties is simply a distraction. It's best stated as I just did - there is absolutely no evidence to suggest a god exists. The same goes for the fairy godmother, Floequindo - Love Lord of my navel, Never Never Land or an infinity of other places or beings that people can imagine but don't exist. I disbelieve in the equally and for the same reason. +5
  • Not generally but I do get annoyed with one particular thing. Some atheists will insist that all religious folk are stupid, when this is plainly false. It's SO plainly false that it makes their whole argument suspicious, and that reflects badly on me. Don't make assumptions about the other side being dumb, gullible, or brainwashed - don't you know the opposition thinks the same thing about us? And that it's demonstrably untrue either way? That bugs me.
