Where I live, there are laws set in place to penalize drivers that text message or make calls on their handheld.

There is a law against using a hand-held phone in the UK. If you have a hands-free set, you can use it - but that certainly does not allow for texting.

I don't talk or text while driving. There are laws in Cali against talking on your cell while you drive. I don't think there is one specifically for texting, however, cops have the right to pull you over if you are doing anything while driving that may be a potential danger to the safety of yourself or the people around you. =]

i never text and if i have to talk i'll leave the speaker on so i have both hands on the wheel.

I would say it is more dangerous than drinking and driving.When one is text messaging they are not watching the road.

No and No I dont and never did. My first cell was for work and if seen using it while driving it was a diciplinary offense. in UK it is already illegal.

I think people should just be smart enough not to hold a cell and talk while driving.

In a semi-response to anna.m, yes there is a texting while driving law in california. But, unfortunately and frustratingly, they are both heavily ignored laws. I drive as part of my work and I see MANY people doing one or the other. You can easily see the results of it. Mostly texting is done by teens. We live in a new world....

im in england and it is against the law, also you might be interested to know that tests done on texting while driving revealed that you are 5 times more likely to crash than normally.

I think both are illegal in California. Talking is for sure. I still talk on the phone sometimes.
