1 Corinthians 7:4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

1 Corinthians 11:9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

Try READING more than just the tiny, narrow minded area which proves your point. You will find you learn something.

Oh, that's right. There are those of you that would rather preach than learn. I'm glad all Christians are not like that.

Because the church realises that if it does not modernise to allow such things then this will be it's downfall. Gone are the days when it was in control of the masses. In 2008 (UK), it needs anybody it can get and people are staying away in their droves. In the UK, this is also propped up by the law which states that nobody can discriminate against a particular group of people based on sexuality or gender. In other words, equal rights are in force to stop such institutions behaving badly and unfairly.

The Bible does not downgrade women.
    (As is sometimes charged.)
For example, in the 1st century, Jewish tradition did not permit women to serve as 'witnesses' in legal matters. Yet, the resurrected Christ appeared first to women and instructed them to inform the rest of disciples. Obviously, he viewed them as capable witnesses.
The apostle Paul mentions, in his letters, that some of the 1st Century Christian women had worked 'side by side' with him in preaching the good news.
(Philippians 4:2-3 Eu‧o′di‧a I exhort and Syn′ty‧che I exhort to be of the same mind in [the] Lord. 3 Yes, I request you too, genuine yokefellow, keep assisting these [women] who have striven side by side with me in the good news . . .

HOWEVER,...there is no provision in the scriptures for a woman to be appointed to an office of oversight within the congregation.
When writing in regard to these appointments Paul mentioned only 'older men'.
(Titus 1:5-7) . . .make appointments of older men in city after city, as I gave you orders; 6 if there is any man free from accusation, a husband of one wife,... 7 For an overseer must be free from accusation as God’s steward. . .
    (See also 1Timothy 3:1-12)
So why are there so many female 'preachers'?
Religious leaders today, of both genders, pay more attention to church 'creed' than to the Bible.

When Paul wrote Corinthians, he was speaking to a specific church. He didn't give that command to the Philippians. Why? Location. Corinth was across the sea from Delphi, a hot spot for idols and sexual immorality. The temple in Delphi had priestesses who were basically prostitutes. To avoid any confusion with the Delphi prostitutes, he told the women in Corinth to look and behave differently. So as not to confuse the Christiams with the wicked prostitutes. This is why it confuses people, it seems inconsistent, when it isnt. Scripture says to avoid the mere appearance of evil, and this instruction was needed in Corinth to make a distinction.

    Specifically its: Corinthians 1: Chapter11:3

"But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God."

What the bible states is a mystery to all of us. Sometimes it even contradics its own word from new to old testament. I'd suggest asking your local priest or go to your local church. Religion shouldn't be a doubt and should be clarified.

the chapter says, God is the head of Jesus, and Jesus the head of man, and man, the head of woman... right?

what makes a woman disqualified for preaching the word?
    NOTHING.

need i remind you that angels told the women who went to JEsus' tomb to go and tell the other of His resurrection? that preaching the gospel right there, and it started with women. (in this case)

God used women to be prophets... God used women to do MANY holy things...

my friend, the commission given in matthew 28 (go ye into all the world and preach) was given to women too, and if they avail themselves, God will use them... hence you see many women doing the work.

    now, where are we men?

fact is... if the men dont do it, and the women dont it, God says he will use stones, and trees...

God is using women because they are allowing themselves to be used by Him, and God is NO respecter or persons... He said that himself.

    why not use a woman?

Head does not mean master as in a master-slave relationship, nor does it mean a relationship like a general to a private in the army. It is more like a partnership where one is the leader, guide, director. And the "Head relationship" is spoken between husband and wife... it has nothing to do with people in leadership positions. There were MANY MANY women in leadership positions in Scripture.

    - Deborah was a Prophetess and Judge of the Nation of Israel (Judges 4)

    - Esther preserved the Nation of Israel through her relationship with the King

    - A whole book of the Bible is dedicated to Ruth, who was in the Messianic line of Jesus (Matt 1:5)

    - The first person to see Jesus after His resurrection was a woman. (Matt 28:1-10)

    - In the Gospel of Luke, everything (healing, etc.) that happened to a man happened to a woman.

    - The Daughters of Philip were prophetesses (Acts 21:8-9)

    - Junias, a woman, was not only an Apostle but was considered outstanding among them by Paul (Romans 16:7)

    - Husband and Wife, Priscilla and Aquila, were both preachers at a church in their home (1 Cor. 16:19)

There is nothing in scripture to support the idea that women cannot and should not be leaders in the Church. The man is the head of his wife and his household, but he is also called to love her as Christ loved the Church (Eph 5:22; 28-31). But this only speaks of husband/wife relationships, not of who should and shouldn't be in leadership.

    Hope this helps!

    God bless!!

As for the question....many women are out of line and out of the God given proper authority for the church. Women should not be usurping authority over the man. There is a proper order for everything. In the church, God is the head, then man, and then woman.

    1. 1 Corinthians 11:8-9, “For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.”

    2. 1 Corinthians 14:34-36, “Let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. What? Came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

    3. 1 Timothy 2:8-15, “I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like manner also that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, was in the transgression. Notwithstanding, she shall be saved in child bearing if she continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.”

If you are asking for yourself you either want to defend a position you have taken or are trying to understand a lesson. Read the entire chapter. First remember religion is made of rules and traditions. Look for what the Bible is trying to teach you. Find your way dont let someone else tell you what it means be open to the word and the truth. One word or one sentance does not a chapter make. If you had never been told what this meant and I told you to teach this chapter would you not go into the chapter to learn it with an open mind so you could convey what the chapter is teaching? But if I told you you must convince someone to believe this point of view would you not only use that which applied to your point of view? Go beyond what is expected of you and you will uncover what the bible says and what people want you to believe.

Your failing to look at certain scriptures like Anna the prophetess who counselled Elijah, The woman at the well who evangelised to the whole community of Samaria, and Joel when it says in the last days I will pour out my spirit on ALL flesh, sons and daughters will Prophecy (speak for God), 2 John the chosen female pastor, exodus 15 song of the sea, miriam was the first theologian being the author of this,
Paul said, "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence" (1 Tim. 2:11-12).

Those who would forbid Christian women from teaching classes of other women or children quote this passage loud and long. It is their sugar stick. They want to leave the impression that Paul is saying, "I suffer not a woman to teach, period." They know as well as I, that it cannot be so. It must be qualified. If it were not qualified, Christian women could not sing (Col. 3:16), be teachers of good things (Tit. 2:3), teach their children (2 Tim. 1:5), or even teach as Priscilla did in Acts 18:26. If Paul was saying, "I suffer not a woman to teach, period," then we have Christian women doing what Paul forbid. You can see that Paul's statement must be qualified, but there is only one way to qualify it and harmonize it with all other passages on the subject, and that is to believe the Truth. The false teacher will never harmonize it by his position.
To further qualify their false position on 1 Timothy 2:12, false teachers will say that a woman is not to be a teacher in "any class the church may arrange." This is supposed to permit women to teach by example, teach her children, be a teacher of good things, and even teach as Priscilla did in helping to teach Apollos, as long as the church does not arrange it. The problem wi(h it is, (1) Paul did not say it, and (2) it still will not permit women to sing in any grouping "the church has arranged."

Recognizing that the above qualifications would not forbid Christian women from teaching any group that would not be described as "in the church" or "class the church may arrange," false teachers are forced to further qualify it. They usually add in public or in worship. Even that addition will give them no comfort for it too prohibits women from singing (worship) in the public assemblies of the church.

All of these and other qualifications are put on 1 Timothy 2:11-12 in an effort to sustain a false doctrine. Recently, in public debate, I charged my opponent with changing God's Word to read: "But I suffer not a woman to teach (that is: be a teacher, deliver a didactic discourse), in the church, or in any class the church may arrange, or in public, or in worship; nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." He accepted (his and his and Mr. Thayer's rendition of the passage. It certainly is not what the Bible says.

    The Truth Harmonized

There can be no substitute for the truth. As stated in the firs[ paragraph of this article, the truth perfectly harmonizes with every partial of it. There is no lie of the truth (1 Jn. 2:21). When the truth on 1 Timothy 2:11-12 is found, it too harmonizes perfectly with every other passage. Let us consider the context.

In the first seven verses of the chapter, Paul talks about God's will for all men to be saved through Jesus Christ who died for all, and that he had been ordained to preach the gospel to them. In verse 8 he says, "I will therefore that men (Greek; andras, males) pray every where." The nature of this statement in view of its context shows that women cannot pray every where. why? 'The same reason women are told in verses 9-12 to (1) dress modestly, (2) "learn in silence with all subjection," (3) not "to teach," and (4) "nor to usurp authority over the man," The reason is her relationship to man. She cannot pray everywhere because of her relationship to man (cf. 1 Cor. 11:1-16). She is to be in "subjection" (v. 11), and she is "not to usurp authority over the man" (v. 12). She cannot pray or teach in any capacity that causes her to violate her submission to man, but when she does not sustain a relationship to any inan, she cannot violate the passage. That is why she does not violate it when she teaches a class of other women or children. In these classes she does not have a relationship to men when teaching.

Paul then gives the reasons for the regulation. (1) "Adam was first formed," and (2) "Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression" (v. 13-14). The first reason is as old as Eve, arid the second nearly as Old (Gen. 3:16). From the beginning it was not so that wonian should violate and ignore their submission to man, and she niust not do so even today, but let us not dare to forbid christian women to do what they art commanded to do.

Women are commanded to sing (Col. 3:16), and they can do so as long as they do not violate their submission to man. Likewise, they can be teachers of good things, teach the younger wornen (Tit. 2:3-5), teach by example, teach their children (2 Tim. 1:5), and teach like Priscilla (Acts 18:26), and do it all without violating their submission to man and without exercising authority over man. That is the truth about it, and it is the only way 1 Timothy 2:11-12 can be harmonized with those passages teaching women to teach.

Throughout the NT the Greek word for "authority" as in teaching the Word of God is "exousia", but in 1 Tim. 2:12 the Greek word for "usurp authority" is "authenein." This is a rare Greek verb, found ONLY in 1 Tim. 2:12 and not often in ancient Greek literature, but is found in ancient gnostic papyri in reference to the office of a pagan priestess, who taught men and seduced them into fornication as a means of becoming one with the deity.

The Epistle of 1 Tim. involves false teaching that was rampant in Ephesus, and we do not have to go back far into history to identify the doctrine as "gnosticism", which was characterized by a mixing of paganism with Jewish Scriptures, esp the first few chapters of Genesis. Female gnostic teachers at Ephesus were teaching that Eve was created first--then Adam, the result of combining Diana worship, since the Diana cult taught woman was created first, with the Genesis story of creation.

The women at Ephesus, to whom the writings of Paul were addressed, were teaching false gnostic doctrines. The commandment was not a universal, blanket prohibition against all womankind. Paul did not exclude gifted women from leadership positions in the church!

Catherine Clark Kroeger, PH.D., is accredited with "ground-breaking" work on the Greek text of 1 Tim. 2:11-15. Together with her husband, Richard, they wrote "I Suffer Not a Woman", which goes into great detail on the Greek text and history of gnosticism. Kroeger wrote:

"...fornication brought the worshiper into direct communion with the deity. ...Gnostics and Nestorians employed "authentia" (the Greek word translated, "usurp authority", in the KJV) to indicate a force binding together the fleshly and the divine. Virtually without exception, female teachers among the Greeks were courtesans (temple prostitutes). Active in every major of school of philosophy, these "hetairai" made it evident in the course of their lectures that they were available afterwards for a second occupation."

Charles Trombley, in his book on women teachers, states "authenein" had a sexual meaning and was linked to temple prostitutes that "believed fornication brought believers into contact with deity." From p177 he says the word "authenein" meant to "engage in sexual immorality as in a pagan religious setting."

Gnostics had essentially "Christianized" the office of the pagan priestess. Not only were the women at Ephesus showing up for prayer services dressed like Diana's priestesses, but they were employing "authenein" as well.

So, the commandment here is NOT against women teaching the Word of God.

Perhaps this link can shed some light into this subject. Mistranslation, editing, and man's own interpretation into the word of the bible can easily mislead us especially when scripture is taken out of context in the bible as a whole.Any translation of the bible must harmonize the word throughout the entire bible because the bible as a whole should not contradict itself from one passage to another. furthermore, culture and customs in man's interpretation of the bible can sometimes lead to misunderstandings of the bibles true meaning. Remember to look at these interpretations of the bible and if it harmonizes with the entire bible before accepting that this was the meaning of the word of God.

If Ur only question is truly "Why are there so many "Women Preachers" in the world today?", Ur suffering from "Tunnel Vision"! Expand it by asking why so many different Religions??? Vanity, Greed, Power Lust, Arrogance, Control of People are ALL part of the story. U know Christ could have made it Simple for Us by Establishing in No Uncertain Terms a Specific "Religious Organization" & DEMANDING that we all go at "Specific Intervals to Specific Pastors at Specific Churches" but He didn't, WHY??? Because it Negates our "Free Will" to LOVE GOD WILLINGLY!!! Now take it back to the "Garden" when Eve used her "Volition" for "Sin" instead of expressing her LOVE for God!!! Through our Parents' "Sin" we are Separated from God & have been trying (through our "Feeble Efforts of Religion" instead of the "Work of Christ"), to reunite with God. So now U have lots of people Spawning lots of Religions trying to do it "Their Way", not Gods' & that includes Women who I'm sure know what Scripture says, but are "Rebellious" in their "Reversion". U'll notice please I have not said that Women are not capable of teaching, for they are to teach the young women & children but not the adult males of a Congregation. In this, they are to be Subjects, Willingly Showing their Love for God. John

due to the fact that people think they can interpret the bible as they please. this is a big misconception. the bible clearly states that a woman is never to preach before an audience. this is an arrangement in God's organization. he has assigned the preaching and teaching work only to qualified males. when a woman goes beyond what the bible clearly states she is then not following the guidelines as stated in the bible. this does not mean that we are not to express our convictions before others. however, in matters of teaching as when a meeting is being conducted the teaching and instructing of the bible is left to the qualified males, as so written in 1corinthians chapter 11.

This is an excellent question. Perhaps it is an effect of feminism that has leaked into the church, leading into blindness. Noteworthy: I've heard quite a few women of faith and I think most of them are fantastic at administering Gods' Word.
