Slavery is slavery. Different cultures may claim to be squeamish about this or that way of treating slaves but ultimately the slave is the private property of an owner who can do anything he wishes to his property.

some of the rule of law was different. some of the economic factors were different. but, slavery is slavery. all slavery is wrong, no matter who perpetrates it upon whom. like in the usa for the 100 years between emancipation (one of my finest works if i do say so myself) and civil rights, the dutch in africa still have perfunctory slavery.

I agree with Factotum. Slavery is still slavery, humans were still owned and treated as property. More than likely it was the same all around, some would treat them poorly, some would treat them well, ALL treated them as slaves.

Yes. Does someone out there think that some slavers are more redeeming than others? That it would be better to be a slave in a remote British colony than on mainland America? Just curious.
