QUESTION CONTINUED: When the rash "flares up," the dots look like blotches, especially on her face. Recently started solid food from breast milk. Only had rice cereal for several days before rash showed. Tried pears AFTER rash with no noted skin change. No changes in soaps or laundry detergents, and no changes in my diet either. Rash has come & gone since Thursday. No other symptoms prior including fever, cough or congestion. Did have a mild fever last night that passed within a few hours. Chicken pox, measles, and Fifth disease all list fever and congestion as precursors to the rash. I'm truly stumped, and I appreciate your help.

It sounds like heat rash, which is all the more likely since this is August. The main thing is to keep your baby cooler, use an AC or fan to maintain a more comfortable temperature. More details: http://www.babycenter.com/0_heat-rash_10881.bc

Hope it's not Norwegian scabies. That stuff's nasty. Get some antihistamine cream, have her rub it on, and go to a dermatologist if you can afford it.

You need a doctor's diagnosis. Could be Roseola, ecsema, or a load of mild or severe things. This is the most precious thing you have . . . take her to the doctor. You wouldn't want to find out later she had something that damaged her heart.

The rash and the intermittent fever might not be connected. It's possible that it's an allergy, and the fever is due to an illness of some sort. You might want to back off of solid food until you get this straightened out. Then to be sure you've covered all your bases, change to a free and clear detergent for all your baby stuff.

Could be your infant has eczema (atopic dermatitis). You may first notice light red or tannish-pink patches of rough bumpy skin. The patches later become red. There is no associated fever or congestion. It can come and go and can be triggered by a change in her diet. A trial of this being the cause would be to treat a small area with hydrocortisone cream, aka Cortaid. http://www.cortaid.com/

You should try changing your laundry detergent. My mother and sister are both allergic to Tide.

You should see a Dr. you wouldn't want to ignore a rash for too long. She should be due for her 6 month check up anyway.

I dunno it might just be me but a doctor could probably help.

It is so hard to decide what to do when the doctor doesn't seem concerned. Try to take charge of the conversation if it comes up again, and say "I want you to give me some clue about what to do." Don't forget, the doctor works for you, get the service you pay for. Please give us an update, how is she?
