  • It's the old Ready...Fire...Aim approach to governing.
  • I'll write them a check, LOL!
  • Shocker... . As if we couldn't see the writing on the wall with THIS one when they claimed to have run out of money for the Cash for Clunkers program and wanted to increase funding a couple billion more. . Here, I've got a BETTER friggin' idea: My car, a 1995 LeSabre, gets up to 39.5 MPG on the road. How 'bout they just pay ME the $4,500 for my car and let me use it continue to keep mine in good condition? . Grrrrrrr
  • Just think, we got 3 more years to see whats going to happen next.
  • They know what happened: they underestimated the demand. There's no mystery.
  • Do you have a specific complaint about CARS... . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cash_for_clunkers . ...or is this just another 'gubmint can't do nuttin right nohow!' rant? They allocated $3 billion to subsidize new car purchases, they spent $3 billion, and about 700k new cars were purchased that would not otherwise have been. How is this going to 'cost us way more than $3 billion, yo?' Compared to the $9 billion in cash that simply 'evaporated' in Baghdad... http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2007/10/iraq_billions200710 ... spending $3 billion to give the car industry a boost seems like a relative bargain.
  • and you sir, hit the nail on the head
  • Yes it did it cost us our liberty. we sold our brains and turned them off. We sold our country to socialist. Our constitution is priceless now it's ruined.
  • and what a waste, taking perfectly good cars and destroying them for no good reason whatsoever. But don't worry, dealers, the checks are in the mail.... really..... we won't change our minds and screw you.... really..... trust us.....
  • Of course it will. It already is in the hidden costs of paying to destroy assets (none of the really useful parts of the cars are allowed to be salvaged even for just parts, its all scrap metal). Not to mention that I doubt it will have any impact on pollution (maybe even increase it). Ever worked at a scrap yard? Melting, shredding, and crushing cars is not exactly a 'clean and green' process. I do not understand people's minds, I've had the chance to see some of these trade ins and some of them are in excellent shape, maybe a bit high mileage but otherwise not bad, so you trade in a decently running if less than ideal MPG vehicle you OWN for a much more expensive vehicle that gets a few more MPG and comes with a nice payment and increased insurance? Your slightly better gas mileage will be meaningless when you become an unemployment statistic and the car is repoed. Assuming you get the full $4500 (doubtful due to the complexity of the paperwork), for that much I could have effectively a full engine rebuild and new drivetrain placed in most any 'clunker', so long as the frame is not rusted or damaged I have effectively a new car that is MINE without a payment or increased insurance. Has anyone ever heard of a government program that actually stayed within its budget? This won't be any different.
  • If I was a betting man~~ and I am not I would say that this program would be a lot higher in the long run. Everything the government does is always costing more then budgeted. As Obama would say *That is what you get for loving me!*
  • I want a "Moolah for Moldy Vegetables" program, where I can take the stuff out of the back and bottom of my refrigerator to the supermarket, get cash for it, and buy new groceries. Why do people think this is a bad idea? I have a decrepit old garden shed in the back yard that has a leaky roof, broken window, and mouse holes in the walls. Can't I push that over onto a utility trailer and drop it off at a mill store where I can pick up a newer, nicer and bigger garden shed, with a cash rebate? Why is that a bad idea? I want to take my wife to the Bunny Ranch in Nevada, and -- okay, I understand that the Constitution no longer permits me to strictly "trade her in for cash", but still -- we could work out some non-cash arrangements that would pass judicial review, couldn't we?
  • I will back that bet.
  • This is but a taste of things to come, I'm afraid. No..I'm terrified.
  • who gives a shit, it was a stupid idea from the start. they should have just bailed the companies out. now a bunch of people have a car loan they will default in, in the next couple years. do you really think they didnt honestly consider that people would be buying imports when they came up with this bird brained scheme.
  • and these are the SAME PEOPLE you want to trust with your HEALTHCARE??? have you not learned from them handling EDUCATION ... SOCIAL SECURITY ... ENERGY ???
