Mormon's last entry in the Book of Mormon = Mormon 7 (A.D. 385) Moroni's last entry in the Book of Mormon = Moroni 10 (A.D. 421) That means that there was 36 year between the time that Moroni took possession of the plates and the time that he hid them. This is more than enough time for a man to walk from Mesoamerica to the Great Lakes region of New York. So, what more explanation is necessary? Moroni probably simply carried them up there after the destruction of his people. He was also most likely instructed by God as to just where to burry them so that they would be in the right place for Joseph Smith to receive them.
