Is it incest if you or your family member is adopted? Is it really about the child born from that relationship or that society frowns down upon it? Why?

It seems to be incest only if there is some degree of consanguinity (shared blood). New Jersey throws in "affinity to the third degree" which is complicated but I think that only applies in this case of the adopted parent has sex with the adopted child. I don't think it applies to adopted siblings, though the age of consent issues still apply. There seem to be two reasons to prevent incest: 1) genetics and having children, and 2) abuse of familial intimacy. If I am correct above about adopted siblings, then this seems to be a genetic matter.

let me get this straight: you are adopted and you have fallen in love with someone from your adopted family? if so, it may not be blood incest, but it is moral incest, because you have been raised as part of that family, and a morally related to that person.

    Annome.

First hand experiance here, I do fully believe that it is incest.
My brother was 5 when my parents adopted him, i popped up 3 years later, thus having him around since I was born. I was 6 when he was 14 when the incident occurred.
Just because we weren't blood related doesn't mean that incest sould be dissmounted from the topic.

Society frowns on anything that they don't understand. Technically it is only incest if it is blood relation although because of different social pressures some laws include adopted relationships in the incest description. The main reason for most arguing against incest is the birth defect issue.

Is it wrong for me to have consensual sex with my adult niece even though I have had a vasectomy? Almost anyone that uses the birth defect defense says yes still even though that reason has been eliminated. I suddenly become a dangerous and bad man just because my niece and I as rational adults have decided that it is ok for us to share a sexual relationship.
