  • no, they should be called nelectrons. i don't know. good question and observations!
  • No...PROton and POSitive. I can see where you're coming from, but it just sounds stupid saying negtrons. At least spell it right, and say Negatrons.
  • Electrons were discovered first. So it was electrons for electricity. That's all anyone thought we needed. Now there's loads of of em. Now we know more, "negatrons" would be better, as they are the exact opposite of positrons rather than protons. Unfortunately that sounds too much like science fiction... Help! help! I'm being attacked by the negatrons!
  • uhh... controns? XD Well, electrons are what is needed to conduct electricity so I guess that's where the name came from. Electricity can only be conducted when a "sea of ELECTRONS" is available. Otherwise, no conductivity. This is just my theory. I know that JJ thompson discovered the electron, but I have no clue who named it.
  • Actually, the discoverer of the electron, Carl Anderson, did call them negatrons, but it didn't catch on.
  • the electron derived from the word electricty, as electricity was found before the electron was discoverd, and an electrical current is the flow of ELECTRONS. i understand were you are coming from, because a possitive electron is a POSITRON.
  • They should be called Fred, that would be much more amusing
  • no because they arent called positrons either, so yeah!
  • Lets just call 'em doohickeys, thingamajigs and whatchmacallits for that matter.
