It depends on what you're being argumentative about. It can be a positive and/or a negative thing. I think being overly argumentative is just as bad as being overly noncontentious or docile.

The word "argumentative" in definition means the type of person that argues for no particular reason. Annoying.

I prefer the term discuss. It comes in handy at work....not quite as good in relationships.
