Maybe with time off for good behavior ...

Mine is.
-
That's the idea.

A committment made with age and maturity and between two people who understand what marriage is? Yes. Two people doing what they assume they should do for whatever other reasons? No.
-
absolutely 100%. +3

Nice concept, but no. Marriage is there to provide a secure environment to raise children. Once the children no longer need that, marriage is no longer needed. Not to mention, people change as the years go on... who you married may not be the same person who you are currently living with.
-
It should be. But there are cases in which I believe a divorce is acceptable.
-
That is the intent but when people go for pre-nuptiual agreements and keep their money in separate accounts after the marriage, it is just proof that they don't feel it will last.
-
No, its similar to a life sentence, its supposed to be for life, but in reality its just 20 odd years..
-
It is a life time contract and you have to stick to it.
-
It should be. But with the decline in religion in the US, and thus the decline in morality, most people dont seem to think of it that way anymore, and quit at the first sign of trouble.
-
Sometimes yes, sometimes no, it depends on the individuals and their circumstances.
-
Yes!

I have never been married because I won't do it unless it is for life. No compromise. Marrige is work and effort and responsibility and growth and committment. It is not sex on the beach and partying and fun fun fun until it gets too boring and time to quit.
-
imo if you go in wanting a commitment for life, then that's what you should work for. both parties should be on the same page. if you want to get married for a temporary amount of time, then uh, that's not my thing, but as long as everyone's on the same page, i guess that's their gig?
-
Yes, it is.
-
Thats how it was meant to be, but I don't think that is how it is anymore. It seems as if more and more people take it like "until we get tired of each other or things start to get hard."
-
It should be but some people are unlucky enough not to get it right or they do not wish to work at mmking it work. You cannot expect cruel and abusive marriages to be for life.
-
Yes but it doesn't work out like that in reality, of course. For me marriage is for life though. I would not get married if I had no intention of making it last.
-
In my opinion, marriage is for control. It's only natural that the institution is slowly withering away. People aren't as utterly defenceless against brainwashing, as they used to be.
-
Yes, that's the idea.
