Perhaps we should first start with simply abolishing it. Then there might not be a need to demolish it.
-
because it is considered a liberal right. Why don't we start with legalizing gay marriage everywhere in the world
-
What the hell does this have to do with Barack Obama? Simple answer, different places have different customs. And it works for some people but most people aren't polygamous. Simple question, who is going to enforce that?
-
Well, they tried, but it turned out that the correct term was "abolish polygamy." So the Poligamy Demolition Act of 1997 unfortunately had no effect.
-
Because there are places that so many males have been killed off by war that the women need to double up in order to have a husband at all.
-
Please stop shouting.
-
Because they shouldn't. If one adult man wants to live with and have sex with 10 different adult women, and the women agree (or, one woman with 10 men for that matter), then it's up to them. You mentioned a 40 year old man with a 14 year old girl. That's a different kettle of fish - that's not polygamy.
-
What do you mean by "DEMOLISH", kill all the people that practice it? Send in army's against it?..."DEMOLISH" is a harsh word to use on something that's not physically threatening you!
-
I think you need to learn what the difference is between pedophilia and polygamy before you ask such a ridiculous question
-
Why should we run around and enforce your values on other people? Why shouldn't they come here and force you to marry 10 people? The fact is you have no more right to dictate to them than they do to you.
-
Because there is nothing wrong with polygamy, perhaps? Why can't consenting adults decide what they want to do in their own homes without people like you sticking their noses in?
-
Because secretly the world likes it? Just a thought...
-
Why can't the world kill all brunettes or put in jail all people who like vanilla ice cream? Because it's none of Your business unless someone gets hurt.
-
Because some religious nutters keep insisting on the right to marry more than one.
-
Because maybe they are a bunch of illiterate fools.
-
Because it should be expanded not demolished. Why shouldn't men and women be free to marry whomever they choose? Others who don't want to live that way, are free to continue to be monogamous. Clearly, many people are born to be polygamous, evidenced by the number of marriages that end by way of adulterous affairs.
-
Because it is a form of marriage that God allows.
-
Because there are still many women in the world who prefer having a partial share in a first-rate man to a 100% share in a 3rd-rate one. It's also a lot more compassionate, responsible, and civilized than a system where men routinely dump their 40-something wives of 20 years to marry a trophy-wife in her 20s.
-
I CAN'T HEAR WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! YOU'RE SHOUTING AT ME TOO LOUDLY! (please turn Caps Lock off on future questions . . . thanks)
-
Because it is hard to demolish arrangements that consenting adults desire and/or agree to.
-
Because it's difficult to prosecute as the recent fiasco in Texas will attest. A more rational approach is to decriminalize it while simultaneously doing a better job of enforcing existing family law statutes such as statutory rape, paternal support of illegitimate children, financial support for common law wives, etc. If it were decriminalized just imagine if some of those men were forced to pay financial support for second, third, or fourth divorced wives and their children. It could prove to be a powerful disincentive.
-
Because the entire world does not find it objectionable.
-
Uninterested
-
In western culture it makes most people's skin crawl, but the world is a big place - in many cultures polygamy is common and accepted. "The world" has other things to occupy its attention.
-
Why can't you even spell it correctly, if it is such a concern to you? >>>P-O-L-Y-G-A-M-Y<<<
-
Because it is so damn good.
