Well, yes. Since money and greed rule this world, you can't trust no one.
-
it's always best to be safe than sorry

YES. TAKE WORLD WAR 2. IF WE WERE'NT COMPLETELY PREPARED SOME WHAT THEN, YOU'D BE TALKING JAPANESE NOW. ALSO NOW, THEIR ARE IRAQI MUSLIM TERRORIST GROUPS IN ALL BUT 3 STATES IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW. MY INTELLIGENCE HAS REPORTED THIS TO ME LAST APRIL/09, SO I ADVISED ALL FAMILIES TO ARM THEMSELVES, BUT GET GOOD PROFESSIONAL TRAINING FOR SAFETY. HAVE A NICE DAY. MIKE

Absolutely. By not preparing, you're preparing to lose.

Yes, unless you want to end up living peacefully like Costa Rica and about 20 other like-minded countries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_without_armed_forces

"We" (and by "we" I really mean our government) are always prepare for war. We're not prepared for healthcare, we're not prepared for unemployment, we're not prepared for our citizens losing their homes, we're not prepared for any kind of social reform but war? Yeah, we're always prepared for that!

Freedom isn't free. It must be defended. There are those who would trample us to achieve their personal goals, whether they be power, money, fame, prestige, or whatever else corrupts their souls.
-
Always. It is better to have a top-notch military and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Not being prepared for war is basically an invitation for other folks to come in and fuck up your shit. Of course, I think it should go without saying that war is only one of many things that one should be prepared for.
-
yes i think it is necessary, and i wont say why

Yes!!! I have my own well for water. So I dont have to worry about water. mains breaking. Food not going to be a problem. Go to the woods or fields. I have a .22 that is great for rabbits. Good fishing lakes near by. Oh and if worse comes to worse. I have a 30.06 that I know how to use real well and it will stop just about anyone.

Grandfather say.. "No better way to have a fight than not be ready for one". Tis the nerd that must fight every day not the bully.

As long as there are those who would prey on the weak and helpless, who would take ruthlessly that which they cannot otherwise obtain, then being well-prepared for war will always be the necessary leverage to protect, preserve and defend. History is rife with examples of what happens when there is no one prepared well enough to stand up when needed. Paradoxically, a force that is well prepared for war will probably never have to be called into service...their preparedness serves as sufficient deterrent.

We should always be prepared for disasters......I don't worry about war....I did that when I was a child and the Cuban Missile Crisis was happening. Regular school drills were the norm........
-
I hate to say it because I am for peace, but we need to always be able to protect our country. +4

Given the world as it is and has always been, yes, unfortunately, we must always be prepared for war. We (US) were not alwaysmprepared, which led to a near disaster. However, we have also tended to be "overprepared" at times. This can lead to poor judgement. Hard to find a true balance. Much wisdom is required, which is what we should base our choices of leadership on.

If you mean as a nation most of the answers are a Yes in that sense... If you mean personally prepared for a war - that is a NO by me. It would mean living in fear. And how can I prepare myself for a war? If it is a nuclear one it is futile anyway. I would need a big cement bunker and a year's supply of water and food. I wood also need a device which takes care of my excrements. If it would be more like an old fashioned war, well - I lived through it and I can tell you that my only choice was running from it otherwise I would have died. I would be not able to defend myself person to person because I would not take a gun in my hands = principle. "Make LOVE and not War" - The Beatles (John Lennon)
