  • make sure you soak the wall paper and then try to take it down with a scraper just keep the wall wet and it should come off just fine
  • Hire a steam wallpaper stripper. They are not expensive and you will get the job done in half the time.
  • Wallpaper is held up by glue. Unless you have modern strippable paper (in which case you would not be asking the question) your goal is soften the glue with water. Problems with that goal include: multiple layers, painted layers, waterproof wallpaper. Multiple layers are the least problem. Pick up a wallpaper stripping enzyme gel at a hardware store and dress for a wet, drippy messy job of soaking each layer, one at a time. Once really wet the paper will just fall off, so if you are working too hard you need either more water or more patience. Paint or waterproofing makes the above problem look like a picnic. There is a tool called "tiger's teeth" that you can use to break the surface of the paper - it is basically rough gears that roll over the wall. You can also use a wire brush. Be prepared for a great workout. Once the surface is chewed up, you can then treat the problem as above. When you are all done you will probably join me in sincere gratitude to whoever invented strippable paper and take the pledge to NEVER paint wallpaper.
  • soak it with vinegar and water and mix them both in a spray bottle and let it sit for about 2 minutes and it should just peel right off.
  • score it all over with a scraper, wet the paper with a sponge and leave for an hour or so. Easier to buy a steamer!
