Well, I don't think I have enough information to make a decision. *If* they decided against the play because the main character was gay, I think that was a poor choice.

Your school board was completely wrong. Watchning the play should be required for the school and for the board as well. they might learn something.

No, I don't. The message of the play was about bulling and trying to show why this boy did what he did. Not anything overtly sexual. Maybe you could change it to the boy was from and abusive household and cut down on some of the violence? Maybe have the guy live and change his ways? they might go for that. But to shot it down because the bully was gay was just wrong. What? They think the whole schools straight or you won't come into contact with homosexuals? Idiots.

Your school board is burying its head in the sand. The more people think about the possibly dire consequences of their bad behavior, the better. And before the school board got involved in micromanagement, presumably the play had been approved by your drama teacher and principal, so I imagine it is well within the bounds of good taste.

It may not be a question of right or wrong. This would seem to be a very sensitive subject, especially considering the circumstances. The Board may feel it is just too soon to stir everyone's emotions.
