Our children were always allowed to eat whatever was in the house. The same applied when I was growing up. I don't understand buying food then forbidding children to eat it. That makes them sneaky and closet eaters. Then there are the questions. Why exactly is he eating? Is he hungry? Is he bored? Is he trying to escape feelings of insecurity and lack of worth brought about by an overbearing, dictatorial, critical step-father? There isn't enough information here to give you the answer you seem to be seeking. I would tend to hope your wife does wise up and find her son a step-father that would get involved with him in a positive, productive manner instead of hiding in the pantry to catch him eating.
