  • The Plan of Salvation was adopted before the earth was created. It is the plan for mankind to receive salvation. It is generally drawn out as a flowchart of our eternal existence. 1. Premortal Existence. Before being born we were spirit children of God and lived with Him. However, we were only spirits, whereas God has a physical body. Due to His love, God created a plan whereby we could become like Him. 2. Mortal Existence. When we are born, we receive a physical, but mortal, body. We forget our premortal existence. Because we are not perfect, we are subject to mistakes and sin. Also, because we are mortal, we will die. God's plan provided Jesus as a Savior to overcome death and sin if we accept his Gospel. 3. Spirit World. When we die, our spirit goes to the Spirit World. The Spirit World is broken into Paradise and Spirit Prison. Here our spirit awaits the Resurrection. 4. Resurrection. The physical body we receive in the Resurrection is immortal and perfect. 5. Judgment. We are judged and sent to one of three Degrees of Glory (Celestial, Terrestrial, Telestial) or Outer Darkness (reserved for Satan, his angels, and the sons of Perdition). In actuality, the Plan of Salvation is really a map of what needs to get done for us to return to our Father in Heaven.
