We've always told our kids that everything they have done or are thinking about doing we have probably already done and have either been caught or gotten away with it. Because of this, they won't get much past us.

Parents must at least be trying their hardest. It's parent responsibility. Otherwise, they wouldn't need parents.

If i could have had that one step, i could have been an olympic sprinter!

10 steps ahead minimum...kids learn very quickly and can navigate any and all roadblocks to their curiosities we can throw at them. It's a constant test of wills.

they should be above and beyond their kids. thats the problem with society today to many parents are not ahead of their kids. they think like their kids to please their kids.
-
One step ahead is a cliche, but the principle it represents is the essence of good parenting. The parents should always be one step ahead of children, and be proud of the effort that it takes and (at least visibly) emotionally neutral in the face of the occasional conflicts that it causes. Ask me anything about raising sons.

Yes and no. Sometimes it's for their child's own good and other times parents take it a step further and disrespect the privacy of their kids and wind up losing their balance they have with them.
-
perhaps they should. ]but because everybody is so damn different it´s more the question if they always could or can
