1) The Army is their own department whereas the Marines are part of another, specifically, the Department of the Navy. 2) Marines are more disciplined. Even when drunk and cutting loose, they do so with dignity and never lose their poise. 3) The Army gets all of the shiny new toys, often first-generation stuff that hasn't had all of the bugs worked out yet. Marine equipment may not be cutting-edge, but it's stuff that is proven to work reliably. 4) Navy guys respect Marines.
