  • Hmm, not many countries want to go from independence back to being colonies. Not a good idea.
  • I am sure that India would be more than glad being again under British rule. As well I think the rest of te former countries would be grateful if they could be again in the British Comminwealth. I think this would be rather good idea and help the world to get over mostof the actual problems. I personally would back and welcome a re-institution of the British Commonwealth because the whole world is missing this institution over more than 50 years. Yes, it really would be helpful.
  • I think it would be a great idea. Imperialism was necessary. Look at the economies of the nations. Britain would benefit from controlling the african diamonds, etc. and the african nations would gain the british governmental system and bring stability to their nations.
  • The best that could happen to African countries would be again under British rule and control. So the idea is for me nothing but fascinating. Probably the next Prime Minister will start with the idea.
  • I think the re-establisment of the British Empire would be the real good solution for most problems in the world. Great Britain should get back its colonies. I am really backing this kind of solution.
  • I think that would be a mistake... There are arguments that the reason for the conflicts across the world now, particuarly in ex-British colonies, is partially the fault of Britain. Britain created borders where natural borders did not exist (leading to conflict between people who had previously kept well away from each other); Britain (and other colonial powers) created conflict between tribes where conflict did not exist; it also greatly exacerbated existing conflict between tribes which has continued to this day. You cannot make historical tensions disappear by intervening force. Our previous poor management of these countries, and out continued abuse has added to the problems in the first place. The states Britain would colonise again would not want to be colonised - the fact is, many of them are already resisting British attempts to intervene in tiny ways so why would they give up total control? It would actually lead to more war and conflict, it is just that now, there would be a third party involved. Us. ..... Plus, it would never be allowed by the United Nations and International Community anyway, and we would be marched out of those countries faster than you can blink.
  • We can't run our own country very well. Leaving aside the morality of it (none), the idea that we could walk in and solve other people's problems is incredibly arrogant. While it had its good points, the British Empire was basically exploitative and only survived as long as technology was able to keep the governed population "in their place".
  • I wasn't aware that the UK was doing so fantastically well these days. So.... thanks but no thanks - we'll stay independent. You can keep your Gordon Brown to yourselves :D
