Both involve a relationship built on trust...another thing is that to be in love with one person you have to be friends with that person in the first place...

First comes friendship (if we are talking humans here) and then it evolves into a deeper feeling for the person, which is an extension of the friendship and can involve intimacy or not. But it is much deeper emotionally. And that is love. I hope you understand now eddie. :)

I don't know the term, I just call it awkward in some cases, promising in others. A very good friend of mine, since I was a teenager, and I have been in that state since we met. We dated, I dumped him, I got married and divorced, he got married and still is (unhappily) and whatever that relationship between love and friendship is, we will always be stuck there. I know this is not the conventional answer sought, but it is what it is.

Friendship, is not a necessary component of love, but love is a component of friendship. Love can be unconditional. Friendship hardly ever. So the relationship of friendship to love is arbitrary but love to friendship, vital.

Friendship is when you feel like you like the person to be there to listen to you. Usually you feel you need them when you have a strong emotion and you want to ventilate, or you just don't want to feel lonely so you want some one for company. Love is when you want to do anything for them, and you feel like you could be around that person for the rest of your life. Then you start wanting to hang out with them and only them more then anyone. You know you are in love when you notice most of your time is spend thinking how you can make them feel better, or how you can make things "right" between the two of you. You make future plans to do things with this individual wether it is possible or not. (What that means is you might be in love (or in love with the idea of being in love) all though they might not be) So the difference between love and friend ship is how you plan to use that person (to ventilate and use for your needs to make you feel better (a friend) or if you want to do everything for them and so things can go smoothly between you two (love)
