You might have to dig a little more since most of the polytheist Religions regarded peace as a feminine virtue. This is to say that the ancients understood that males, not females, tended to be the more violent and war making humans thus the Gods of War were balanced with the Goddesses of Peace. Romans had Pax: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pax_(mythology) In Roman mythology, Pax (Latin for peace) (her Greek equivalent was Eirene) was recognized as a goddess during the rule of Augustus. On the Campus Martius, she had a temple called the Ara Pacis, and another temple on the Forum Pacis. She was depicted in art with olive branches, a cornucopia and a scepter. There was a festival in her honor on January 3. Daughter of Jupiter and Iustitia. Pax was often associated with spring. --> Note the Olive Branch, this is now a symbol of peace and also has some Biblical meaning for peace as well. <--- * Hindi Mother Lakshmi is a mother of prosperity, peace and illumination. -->http://www.mailerindia.com/god/hindu/index.php?devi4 * The Celts had Tara, Goddess of Peace and Protection. --->http://www.goddessgift.com/goddess-myths/goddess_tara_white.htm

Because in those times, war, invasion and conquering was more should I say 'popular' than Peace. Not that leaders are really focused on Peace NOW. At least that's my view on things...

I think that people came up with deities and so forth based on what is initially human nature, and the only form of "peace" which has been defined under existence was obtained through oppression or death. :/ Usually a form of peace obtained by force, so it becomes important, whether it's seen as success or whatever. It seems to be that people figure that happiness, security and a sense of guidance, which is what we all strive for, is obtained through power, and one of the biggest manifestation of such is by making other people bend to your will, or eradicate them if they resist. It seems to be human nature, and while this doesn't seem to be illuminated as such in the Western World, it sure as hell was the case for centuries on end. So, it's evident that we would glorify this process of "advancement" through effigies and worship, and even the Christian god has been subjected to such behaviours, as would suggest the Crusades, or the Spanish Inquisition. Most mythologies feature some war oriented god to symbolize the one means we've had of prospering, or even justifying loss. All important aspects of mankind, and what they take from to live or explain has been turned into a god somehow, things like war, death or animistic approaches based on cultivation and the fact that we need natural resources to live. Fecundation and sex has also had its shares of worship through deities, despite how taboo that subject is in actively modern religions like Christianity or Islam. As such, since we seem to live our entire lives in the pursuit of happiness as an eternal reward, we symbolize and concentrate on the progress thereof, rather than the result. :/ Killing someone must feel horrible, and being responsible for mass murder must be even worse, no matter how conditioned you may be to it afterward, so we need to justify our guilt somehow. Just an opinion though.

War/conflict/competition is a reality which can be seen or experienced anywhere any time. Peace on the other hand is a theoretic of fantasy state which has not been proven to exist. Which is probable why the ancients gave it to a goddess as an a trait.

World peace has yet to exist at any period of recorded history plus peace is merely the absence of war kind of like night and darkness is the absence of light. But the feminine thing is probably true though. Most women don't go to war and throughout history most men have disregarded women or how they think or feel anyway. Once you minimize one group you can then disregard their way of thinking. That happens with almost every political side too.. When democrats are elected they disregard republicans and the other way around is true as well even though I'm sure the R's will say, "Oh no..we listen to your side.", which we know to be BS.. Oh well..

Bloodshed = popularity A promise of no bloodshed is not appealing to a majority of people for some amazing reason.
