  • Firstly, Evolutionary theory does -not- say we evolved from monkeys in the sense most people mean. We evolved from a 'kind' of 'ape', that is to say, a less advanced form of what we are today, we didn't evolve from a gorilla, or a chimpanzee, etc, they are other paths of evolution that different kinds of apes took a long time ago. It's a very common misconception about Evolutionary theory and is quite damaging to it's reputation unfortunately, people tend to get caught on this idea that overnight we went from a little monkey swinging on branches to what we are today, despite the fact that that has nothing at all to do with Evolutionary Theory at all :D In regards to the 'missing link', I'm not sure a fossil has been found which science can definitely describe as the 'missing link' between our ape ancestors and us today, there are a great deal of fossils which show ancient forms of apes becoming more human, and then more primitive human fossils becoming more advanced, but there is a small gap which has yet to be filled I think. What is important to realise is that we don't need fossil evidence to 'prove' we evolved from a kind of ape, our genetics does that for us, the 'missing link' fossil will just show us what form we took at that stage of evolution. I'm no expert, but to briefly explain: It is about our chromosomes; Humans naturally have 23 pairs of chromosomes and apes have 24 pairs. This at first glance means that we are not related to each other because of the different number of pairs, but when each of them is examined in detail, you find that 13 of them are almost identical, 7 of them are alike, and 2 are different. So that's 22 chromosomes we have similarities in with other apes, leaving 2 left over. Now, here's the big proof of common ancestry :P The 1 Chromosome I've left out is actually a fusion of the two ape chromosomes that are left over :) The large number of almost identical chromosomes, the many similar ones, and then the fusion of two ape chromosomes pretty much proves that we have common ancestry (NOT we are evolved gorillas or chimpanzee's, we have -common ancestry-, meaning we are highly evolved apes, just as they are evolved apes) This issue doesn't 'need' physical remains to be proven one way or the other, the physical remains will just expand our understanding, the proof is in our genetics :)
  • I believe there is one common trait amongst all species. Not sure what it could be...Did we evolve from monkies? No
  • We are monkeys,
  • I am not any relative of a monkey. I am the offspring of the first humans Adam & Eve.
  • The evidence that humans and primates share a comon ancestor are quite striking. The first answer does a commendable job of asserting the evidence for this comman lineage. The one piece of evidence that should be added to this proof involves the fusion of chimp chomosomes to produce our human chromosome number two. This is seen by the sequencing of chromosomes. All chromosomes have a unique head and tail portion, which is called a telomere. These telomeres have a very unquie pattern or sequence of base pairs. The sequencing of human chromosome number two revealed the presence of such telomeres in human chromosome two EXACTLY at the site where the head-to-head fusion of the two chimp chromosomes was expected to occur. This is extrememly strong proof that we share a common ancestry with primates. Add to this the commonality of our DNA with that of primates (greater than 99 percent in some cases), and the evidence does indeed point to the fact that humans and primates evolved from a common ancestor.
  • To answer this question directly, the "creature in the middle" died out and became extinct several million years ago. Many of the pre-human hominoids, such as cromagnum man and Neandertals, became extinct. Today, humans (homo sapiens), and several species of apes, chimps and gorillas are the surviving members of the original primates and hominoids.
  • i dont think that cuz ALLAH has made the human how carry out the trust of Allah on the Earth so it coudnt be that human got evolved from monkey
  • Evidence of God?
  • Do they propose we evolve from monkeys or apes??
  • I would argue that no scientists believe humans have evolved from monkeys.
  • Cuz there is a reality of AGGRESSİVE ATHEHISM in the World.
  • Fear of admitting they may in fact be wrong about God I posted this in response to a different question I don't know how it got here
  • I guess everybody can think what they want. What I would like to know tho. Is if we came from Monkeys ? Then where did Monkeys evolve from? I myself don't believe we came from Monkeys. But as I stated before. Everybody can think what they want.
  • Because of Darwin's theory of evolution which is supported by evidence. But it isn't monkeys but homo aferensis and australopithicus. Although there are a few missing links, Darwin adequately proved his theory of adaptation/mutation and this should have been explained to you in school. If not, you have a big gap in your knowledge. I think it is worth reading about BEFORE asking this sort of question.
  • I'd be willing to bet a sizable sum that no scientist believes we came from monkeys. . As for humans evolving from an earlier species, there is enough evidence to fill museums. . So I don't understand your question. Can you restate it somehow please?
  • FIrst of all I don't believe in evolution. Second of all there is some evidence. Third it is not conclusive. There is enough doubt to allow for skepticism.
  • [EDIT] This was to have been a commnet. Please ignore. " I trust the Bible because of the things in it that can be proven." Please, name one. But - please remember - you did say "proven".
  • I believe in evolution..But I don't think you are viewing evolution correctly, There is nothing in evolution that is a straight line...there are different branches off the same tree though.
  • there was no middle... the evolution from one being to the next was more likely to be extravagantly vast for it to survive alone against the opposing normality... therefore if you believe in evolution then there probably is no missing link! just a suitable substantiated time frame with indisputable evidence
  • No. ;_)
  • There's nothing there because people didn't evolve from anything.
  • Died out, as have many species.. enough remains have been found to know they existed once.
  • we didn't evolve from monkeys, we had a common ancestor with monkeys. The creature in the middle didn't technically die out, it became us, even though many species have evolved from the same path which lead to humans. Some of those died out (such as neanderthals), and some of them are what we call humans today
  • I do believe in evolution and not God or higher being creating the first humans. There was no middle creature. It's only apes evolving into humans. (Darwin's theory: Survival of the Fittest)Environmental factors, food, climate changes, etc. cuased it to evolved into humans.
  • I don't believe that humans evolved from monkeys. I think humans have evolved in many ways as have many animals, but I'm dubious of many of the "leaps" that are made in the theory of evolution. Just because evolution occurs doesn't mean that the conclusions that some have are truly valid. (The current thought is that all humans evolved from homo erectus, although there really is no evidence one way or the other. It's all theory. Homo erectus, IMHO, looked human to me. Any evolution was purely cosmetic.)
  • No. There has never been found the so called 'missing link' We share some genetic markers as we do with dolphins and whales but we are a separate entity. You would be more nearer the truth if you said we were manipulated by aliens in our distant past.
  • According to evolution, we share a common ancestor with the great apes. No real scientist thinks that humans evolved directly from monkeys. Anyway, the transitional species between any ancestor/decendent relationship in specie either continue evolving through natural selection and genetic drift, branch off and form a new species that lives alongside the species that keeps evolving, or branch off and form a new species, but then die out completely over time.
  • Dude, they say we came from previously shared ancestors not necessarily what we call "monkeys" today, and there is all sorts of fossil evidence of "missing links" . Go to any natural history museum. Now if you want to believe there is a grand conspiracy behind this; go right ahead. I'll keep trusting the scientific methods and engineering that brought us computers, rockets, solar power, and automobiles. You believe what you want to believe.
  • There is not such a great difference anyway...
  • Good question, but unfortunately it's a duplicate several times over.
  • G'day Tsamaya, Thank you for your question. Yes I do. All the evidence points that way. Regards
  • Yeeeez...and? I've got the proof of it right here: . . . . .
  • I believe that humans and simian species are all evolved from the same "bush". There are many limbs on the tree of evolution. It is really not correct to think of evolution in the terms in which you asked your question. "Monkeys" is a generic term which refers to a number of specie of simian, not all are anywhere near to homosapien.
  • yes I believe in evolution, no I do not believe we evolved from monkeys.
  • No, I believe that all the primates evolved from earlier species. To the best of my knowledge no scientist has ever suggested that humans evolved from monkeys or apes. An ape-like creature, perhaps, but not monkeys. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/150919 http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/96105
  • No one believes we evolved from monkeys. The theory is that both primates and humans evolved from a common ancestor. Yes, I believe species evolve over time.
  • Evolved, yes, from monkeys, no; from some other primate - possibly.
  • No. There is no evidence to prove it. And if we did, why aren't humans evolving into other forms of humanoid life? Why arent' more monkeys evolving into more humanoid forms?
  • When it comes to Evolution it is not about "beliefs" but knowledge and evidence. You either know it or ignore it; you accept it or reject it, provided you have better evidence.
  • No. We did evolve, and monkeys evolved, but from a common ape-like ancestor. (also, the "giants" talked about in the Bible - "Giant" is a mistranslation. They were the Niphilim, and there is archaeological evidence to suggest they were the product of humans and neanderthals mating together. A broken step on the evolutionary ladder, perhaps?)
  • not trying to be a smartass, but do you actually understand what evolution is? NOWHERE in any evolution theory does it claim we evolved from monkeys.
  • No. Not even for one second. I believe that God created us-man and beast alike, and we were created in our current forms. We did NOT evolve from nothing.
  • Please stop giving ammunition to the anti-Creationist gang. You know very well that nobody makes that claim. Evolutionists believe we evolved from a common ancestor of monkeys, apes, AND people. There is a difference there, and evolutionists are very sensitive about it.
  • Absolutely. However, you say it in a derogatory way. Obama and others might take offense at being called a monkey.
  • I believe in the evolutionary process.
  • I believe that modern monkeys and humans evolved from the same source. Most likely when we broke off it was from a primitive primate but I doubt it could have been termed an actual monkey.
  • Of course I don't believe that. Neither did Charles Darwin. Neither does anyone who actually knows what the theory of evolution postulates. Where did you get this idea?
  • I believe in Theistic Evolution, we may have evolved from an earlier species, but with the help of God.
  • I don't think I directly descended from monkeys, but yes, I do believe in evolution. Creationism makes no sense and confuses children.
  • Yes I believe in evolution, but we are NOT evolved from monkeys. Monkeys are close genetic relatives of humans, but monkeys and humans evolved alongside one another. In other words, all mammals have common ancestors if you go back far enough, including humans and whales, and whales and monkeys. We diverged away from monkeys more recently than we diverged away from whales, but we are not evolved from monkeys.
