Can it? Yes, easily.. winds are rarely if ever 50+ mph here, and it's hailed only twice the past 30 years.
-
Yeah, it hailed here a few days ago for about 10 minutes with no wind at all. But I think you'd rather hear about possible solutions. Check out 'cloudbusters' at educate-yourself.org. Strange as it may seem, those devices seem to actually have the ability to moderate the local weather. And interestingly, that professional skeptic James Randi won't cover his $1M bet that psychics and psyonic devices don't work in that particular instance.

No, I have Tornado warnings here, also. We just had a tornado a couple days ago. Isnt spring great?

Thanks all for the comments and encouragement. The worst of it seems to be over. I went out there and the make-shift wind block seems to have helped. Some corn is laying down, most of the rest is leaning over. I will try to stand it up tomorrow, for the 4th time this year. The cantaloupe and melon vines are strewn and tangled everywhere. That is my fault for maticulously pulling all of the weeds so the tendrils have nothing to grasp hold of. I stuck sticks in the ground a couple of days ago, but not long enough ago for them to grab hold. At least no hail and it could have been worse. Update 6/11/09 5:05pm - Most seemed to be okay after the worst of it last night, as I moved some equipment to block the direction the wind and rain were coming from. The wind changed direction and blew most of it down from the opposite direction last night. No hail here, but the vines are mangled.
