  • I don't think so peterpam. They may be smaller but I don't think they are poorer in relation to their size and population. I think the Brits do quite well for themselves really.

  • Hi I am British and I feel that we are equal. I have been brought up with American culture and to understand that the U.S.A. is our closest neighbour in terms of culture etc. I was so delighted when Obama was elected President and felt more hope from Obama than from our politicians. I feel apart from my homecountry the U.S.A. would be my other closest choice.

  • Since I live on both sides of the fence I would say no they are not. They do pay much higher prices for things and the tax es are prohibitive but they do have a welfare state. Everyone has free Health care if they wish to use it. and Benefits are provided for any unemployed. In fact no matter how much they complain (and complain they do) the benefits are paid to people that go to work for childcare. Even Millionaires are entitled to Child Allowance. A lot of people think it is a waste of time to go to work because they would lose Housing benefit and Free Council Tax as well as all their other Benefits. Some just could not afford to go to work.
