  • Since most hot line tips are anonymous, we would have no way of knowing. The newspaper here tried to find out whether a reward was issued in a local case, and they were told that information is confidential. Not only 'who' but every part of the investigation. I believe it is mostly for the families, because they need to thing "something" is being done. I heard a lady on the TV news say "My brother is shot and nobody cares - they aren't doing a (deleted)thing about it." In reality, the police force was using up hundreds of hours and caught the shooter.
  • Maybe, but I'll bet they generate a lot of crank calls, too.
  • I don't think I've ever heard of that happening. I think they say that all of the time hoping someone, who knows something; maybe indirectly may call some viable information in.
