Well, I'm not an US citizen, but still, WWII took place in the whole world including my country Macedonia... My grandmother has told me a lot of things about during the WWII and after the WWII... When you hear 'after' you'd certainly think it was better, when in fact it wasn't.. Google it if ya want or comment me if ya want me to tell you.. Doesn't matter...

I have heard some stories, but none that I would wish to repeat, publicly, at this time. Most of them are just incredibly sad... +5

My dad is 85 and his brothers and cousins went, they told me lots of stories about how the U.S. black soldiers were treated for dating the foreign white women. Kinda disheartening to hear.

My dad was in the Aleutians and fought the Japanese Army in very cold weather in harsh battles, the only time he ever said anything about it was when I asked him to hunt deer with me.Said he'd never lift a rifle again.I got the feeling he was afraid of a flashback. Being Polish his oldest brother was able to translate at a concentration camp that they came upon, I was never told which one. He was devastated by the sight of bodies in trenches and from talking to people just as they were saying their last words. The aunts told me he was never the same after that experience. He never had a sweetheart, or many friends. Though he was an engineer, and a brilliant guy, I remember he taught me how to use a slide rule. They say before the war he was jovial and had a Harley. He was supposed to marry. The guys who came home from WWII rarely spoke of their experiences. All of my uncles on my Dad's side went to Germany or Japan and so Did my mom's brother. When I was in bootcamp my dad took a train to see me graduate and stopped off on the was to see 2 or three of his WWII buddies on the way. I suppose they are all gone now. MY father-in law was at the beach at Normandy, and Like I said those guys were the stong silent types who got the job done. So many died.

Many old participants from the German side told me a lot. It was an extremely narrow thing and D-day was about to fail. There was a lot of luck on the allied side. But fortunately it worked. Otherwise the US would have dropped some Atmomic bombs on Germany.
