  • I dont think they are to blame but they are contributors.
  • The question assumes theres only one cause for overweight kids- parents. Thyroid disease effects weight. Emotional problems effect weight. Physical abnormalities in the brain cause over eating. Parents can surley encourage over weight kids in a variety of ways- but they are not the sole cause of obesity in children.
  • They may not be the root cause, but could take steps to make kids active, thereby making them fit. Being overweight and not fit is worst. I have met overweight but active people.
  • Unless the children are doing the shopping and the cooking then I think yes. It is the parent's responsibility to take care of their children and provide them with good, nutritious food and plenty of exercise. If your child has a weight problem then you as his/her parent need to examine what it is that you can do to rectify the problem. Our children are our responsibility good or bad.
  • Yes. But they are not responsible for their offspring being overweight once they're adults. From the moment a child is born and all the way on through the developmental years, it's parents are the most powerful influence in shaping it's habits and mental makeup. It's a parent's job to help their children form healthy habits. Many parents seem to think that as long as their child is happy, they're taking good care of them. A child may be "Happy" if you let them eat a large burger and fries every day. (I actually once knew a parent who did that for her 4 year old boy, some people just make me sick.) But that's not what's best for them. We have to protect them from themselves and teach them how to be healthy, until they're developed enough to do it themselves. But once they are fully developed, they have a choice to take up healthier habits if they want to. True, upbringing can make that choice more difficult, but if a person is an adult, then it's still their choice, not their parents.
  • Yes I believe that it is taught bad eating habits that make overweight children. Unless the child has a medical condition that is the cause
  • I don't think the parents are always to blame.
