Just a crazy mix-up. Jusus's name was left out of the phone book in a fluke printing error one year and everything just snowballed from there. Funny how these things happen.

Cuz...........................The jews didnt believe Jesus was the messiah, even though there was prophecies...over, and over, and over, and over....that explained Jesus as the messiah, the prince of piece, the lamb of God...ect. They should have known...but Jesus went against all the TRADITIONS of the church...and they didnt like that. That pretty much takes their power away...the power of washing hands...(meaning being clean, which isnt outword cleanliness, but inward) of not "working" on the sabbath, is healing working?...I dont believe so....And so on....They should have known, you made a good point...they should have really known, did they? Even their own book states things that should make them realize, do they?...no, only becuase of misinformation. Jesus didnt havta make a name for himself....people listened to him, they watched him, they followed his teachings....only becuase, his own people.......denied him. Sad stuff.....all for, tradition. faulty tradition.

I am afraid that I have to disagree with you. The Jews took, and still take, great pains to not say the name of God. The Hebrew Tetragrammaton YHWH is only part of God's name and in both Jewish and Christian tradition is almost never spoken aloud. Out of great respect for the Name of God, Jews reading the Scriptures will say "Lord" instead of God's name. In the same spirit of supreme respect, most English translations of the Bible translate God's name as "LORD" (in all caps). Catholics and most other Christians follow the example of the Jews and the Bible by almost never using the Name of God. This pious practice is out of supreme respect and in obedience to the Commandment not to use God's name in vain. http://www.catholic.org/ae/music/story.php?id=29022 With love in Christ.

This is a very hard question, because in the whole new Testament, the Father's name is never mentioned. By the time Christ was on the scene, old Hebrew was no longer being used and so pronunciations were lost. The Hebrew writings didn't contain the vowels so we have guessed at what they should be. God was not called "Father" until the time of Christ, so that was revealed to us by Christ. The word "God" is not a name, except it may be the German derivative of Gad which was a pagan "God of fortune." It is true that the old Testament used the YHWH, but the Jews would have known that name from the scriptures, possibly not the pronunciation as has been pointed out by "ImaCatholic." It should be noted that God does want us to use His name, he doesn't want us to use it flippantly or to use it with disrespect. To avoid using God's name is a superstitious fear. I believe the name He revealed was "Father." Every time He speaks about the name, He calls Him Father, Holy Father, Righteous Father. If He revealed another name to the disciples then they never revealed it in the scriptures. The New Testament was written in Greek, Jesus spoke Aramaic, and so we are at a loss for any other explanation, except what is revealed in the Old Testament.
