Which one of the following spellings is more correct, and please explain why: defence or defense? I use the latter and sometimes when I hand in a paper, I get docked for spelling it wrong...am I actually making a spelling mistake?

Here's the procedure: 1.Get up off your ass. That involves standing up. 2.Walk over to the bookshelf. Books are those things with flat pieces of paper inside. 3.Find one that says "Dictionary" on it. Dictionaries are full of words, complete with spelling preferences and definitions. 4. Find pistol. 5. Shoot computer and use the brain you were given. 6. Repeat as necessary (except it shouldn't be necessary to shoot the computer more than once).

Im an american, I use Defense. Defence in american term is prolly like I need to Defence the back yard. Proper term - defense But...i know in some other language it is defence, dont remember which one tho.

wander, there are dictionary's on the internet..lol...its defense in America....my son went to shcool in malaysia with a british teacher...his teacher would never mark him wrong if he spelled it the american way.....so, the defence form could be correct the british spelling.....thatsJustme

'Defence,' is a variant spelling of defense, used mostly in Great Britain. If you get docked for misspelling defense, you should ask the grader for a reference to confirm the proper spelling. This will likely result in you teaching the grader something.
