  • Try to think of it in human terms...when do we grow the most....when we are first growing up (i.e. just after we come alive, which correllates with spring time since everything is pretty much dead in the winter). Once we reach adulthood (summer), we stop growing, but are still living.
  • different factors at play at different seasons: less sunlight, less water, less minerals in the soil, etc, all contribute to the rate of growth of grass (and other plants).
  • Grass grows best under cool moist conditions, like the spring. After its maximum grows, it grows its seeds, which is the next natural stage. It stops growing upwards and ripens it seeds and dies. Even trees don't grow at a constant rate - the leaves come out in the spring on the new growth, but they don't keep growing - the new shoots and leaves ripen and age, but don't get any bigger after that initial growth.
