  • I was Bulimic in year 11 and no one knew (friends, family - no one) I confessed it to my sister; what, why etc. and she said she had no idea, but that looking back she did remember some odd behaviour but thought it was teenage rebellion. From personal experience - things to look out for would be: * Eating lots of food (normal or junk food) and then disappearing soon after eating (going to the bathroom to purge it - in my mind I had to get rid of it before I digested it and gained) * Finding excuses for disappearances or avoiding certain food/food situations. * I was pretty tired too, energy drained. also: Acid from stomach seriously eroded my teeth. The thing with Bulimia is that not everyone loses obvious weight like Anorexia - that's one of the reasons no one knew with me - I stayed at around the same weight - no dramatic difference. I was very tricky and 'diverted attention' well. There may have been more signs, however it was 5 years ago. Hope this has been of some help to you and good luck :)
  • I'm sorry to hear that. Luckily she has a good friend like you looking out for her. Can you ask her why she thinks she needs to lose weight? I used to make myself throw up to feel a sense of control. The idea that if I couldn't control other things, I could at least control myself. It was also the thrill of having a secret that only I knew about. It was controlling me, rather than me controlling it. What will she 'gain' in her life by 'losing' weight? Good luck :)
  • What was the reason they picked on her? (In middle school) Was it weight related? Does anyone pick on her now? If she did lose the weight she “thinks” she needs to lose, becomes “accepted” and “fits in” (whatever that is) does it end there? If people don’t “accept” her now, and only do/will if she becomes what she "thinks" they want her to be, are they now only accepting her because she changed (to suit them)? What if they STILL won’t “accept” if she changes?
  • That’s right, she’s not going to see these people when school ends. I was in a mansion for work about a month ago – thinking how much I never want one! Too much work involved and so not what it seems. Back to Bulimia (if she does have it) Personally, I ate a lot of junk, which was why I thought I had to do it. For me it was “I can eat whatever I want, because I’m going to bring it up anyway” Your friend sounds like she exercises and eats well, maintaining a healthy weight – she has no need to worry (like you said) If you’re interested: Youtube has some interesting personal stories from those who have/have suffered from Bulimia. Good Luck :)
  • There is no guarantee that you can do anything about it, but there are many excellent articles at the bottom of this page. Scroll down and click on the "How to Articles", then type "bulimia" in the search box.
