  • My best friend had that problem once and gasoline and a match and firecrackers solved the problem, but that may not be feasible depending on your location.
  • I've had some luck knocking them back with Andro, but I've never been able to keep them away for long. When it all ends, there will STILL be cockroaches & fireants!
  • Fire Ants can really be a problem here .... I've used Andro PLUS a friend told me to place a small ammount of OATS and sprinkle it over the ant hill ... They take the oats to the Queen and she eats them ; the oats swell up ; queen dies .... I've tried it and it seems to work .... and cheaper than Andro .
  • We don't typically get them around here, but I got some in a load of mulch a few years ago. A friend who vacations in areas where they are common and who has had a few run-ins with them identified them. I got rid of them by soaking the nest with wasp spray. It got rid of them within just a few minutes.
  • I use grits. It works just like oatmeal in another answer and it's safe for animals also.
  • THe Andro product mentioned above does work well, but I've also heard that cinnamon sprinkled in the areas you don;t want them to be around will work too. THe scent is way too much for the little pests.
  • My aunt planted peppermint everywhere, especially around the house (to stop them going into the house.) Apparently, they hate peppermint, it seemed to work for her. Unfortunatly, peppermint kinda spreads everywhere too. Here is my local extension's advice: http://www.extension.org/pages/Fire_Ant_Control:_The_Two-Step_Method_and_Other_Approaches Good Luck!
