  • I think they should be punished. The average person doesn't go around wielding a gun and keeping criminals off the street.. so they don't have accidental shootings. The same with hunting, sometimes people accidently get shot. If you carried a gun around all the time you might slip and make an accident. Policemen are human.. they're always carrying a gun and being put into dangerous situations, so the likelihood of them making a mistake is way greater. I think with any accident, they should be put on trial and punished accordingly. There are some policemen who abuse their powers, and they should have their badge taken away and put in jail just like any other civilian.
  • You pose 2 different questions here, first excessive force and second accidental, Also you seem to think 2 weeks off is a standard penalty with no other repurcussions or incident reviews. In excessive force cases yes trial should be held, but accidental infers that investigation and determination has already been made, thus vindicating the officer.
  • please dont think I dont respect the police, I do, but I also care about the public.
  • That is most definitely not the standard and a peace officer is held accountable for their actions and generally to a higher standard than the average person. There is corruption everwhere you go and unfortunately law enforcement is not immune, but incidents that make the headlines are not the norm and you shouldn't base your opinions from them.
