Where is a good ( but not too expensive) hotel to stay in san Francisco, for a family with two boys ages 10 and 13, I dont want to be near noisy pubs or clubs>

    The Travelodge on Columbus by the Wharf. It is not as nice as either of the two Holiday Inns at the Wharf - no lounge or other hotel extras. But it is clean, in a good location, and will cost a good deal less than the Holiday Inns or either Marriott at the Wharf. Last time I checked the rates at both Holiday Inns were way above the $130 noted in the first answer.

    I once stayed at the Holiday Inn on Fisherman's Wharf. It was nice, and when I checked online, rooms are running about $130 now. (I think that's reasonable for SF.) It was neat because we were near the fun stuff on the wharf, which might be good for your boys. Have a great trip! :)

    Be sure to check online for discount rooms. In my opinion, any room of or near the wharf is going to be by noisy clubs, but most a relatively sound proofed, so it shouldn't be a problem. There is a really cheap, hotel near the Golden Gate bridge, and the parks here:
