In corporate law is there a word or a phrase that has to be used to quit your job? Can a person not show up for two weeks and still have to formally quit?

This answer to both questions depends entirely on what the laws are where you live. When I quit my job, I chose to use the word resign, but no law bound me to use that specific word. It is my understanding that in some places (again check your local laws) if an employee fails to show up for 3 consecutive days for which they are scheduled to work, the company can terminate their employment without them being present in the office. You might also check your compnay's employee handbook or human resources guide for company policy on both matters. Hope this helps.
